In conjunction with the publication of ‘G. E. Kidder Smith Builds: The Travel of Architectural Photography’, three exhibitions examine his photographic legacy: ‘At Home in America’ features a selection of residential buildings located throughout the USA; ‘Discovering Italy’ reveals Italy’s modern architecture against the backdrop of its ancient past; ‘Building Books’ explores the tools GEKS used to produce visually engaging and deeply researched books.

‘At Home in America’ presents photographs of American houses of all ages that were featured in Kidder Smith’s publications and that are generally open to the general public. After his far-flung global travels over the decades, Kidder Smith produced a series of encyclopedic books about the United States that coincided with its Bicentennial in 1976: ‘A Pictorial History of Architecture in America’ (1976), and a three-volume ‘The Architecture of the United States’ (1982). He concludes his career with ‘Sourcebook of American Architecture: 500 Notable Buildings from the 10th Century to the Present’ (1996).
